Gary Payton II isn't the trash-talker his dad was - NBCSports.com

Saturday night's loss to the New York Knicks almost perfectly encapsulated what has been a frustrating season for the Washington Wizards. Hampered by injuries and forced to rely on young role players for big minutes, Washington was unable to beat one of the few teams that have been as poor as them.

Now sitting at 9-22, and losers of two straight, the Wizards have one final chance to end 2019 on a high note come Monday night. But it won't be easy, as they'll face the red-hot Miami Heat.

Miami currently holds at 24-8 record and has rattled off five-straight victories. The most recent being an overtime thriller against the 76ers. With a talented scorer in Jimmy Butler and a strong supporting cast, the Wizards will have their hands full. Here's everything you need to know about the matchup between two teams trending in opposite directions.

WIZARDS at 76ers PLAYERS TO WATCH

Gary Payton II, G, Wizards (11.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 4.0 apg): In his second stint with the Wizards, Payton has impressed in limited showings. With so many injuries for the Wizards, the point guard has gotten an opportunity to showcase his skills and has made the most of it on the court. The injuries aren't going anywhere, so he should have more chances to show that he deserves a permanent spot on the roster.

Jordan McRae, G, Wizards (10.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.7 apg): McRae is another player that has bounced around the G-League and NBA currently making the most of another chance with the Wizards. On Saturday night against the Knicks, the shooting guard added 20 points off the bench. If the Wizards can continue to get that type of production from bench players, they'll have a better chance of taking down the Heat.

Jimmy Butler, SF, Heat (20.5 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 6.7 apg): The All-Star has looked to finally found a team he enjoys playing with, and the product on the court is showing that. Butler has been an instrumental part of the Heats' success in 2019, and his near triple-double in the win over the 76ers shows just how important he is to Miami.
