Police warn residents not to leave Christmas trash out - KSHB

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — While Santa has come and gone, the Grinch could still be lurking.

Police departments across the metro are warning residents to be mindful when taking trash out to the curb because it could attract thieves.

41 Action News drove around to several different neighborhoods where trash bags and boxes were gathered curbside.

Jill Connors had several bags and a box for a 50-inch TV outside.

"I did think about that myself, I did think maybe we shouldn't put that out," Connors said.

Connors said though she normally does not leave big boxes such as that one out, she appreciates the reminder from police.

Many departments recommend cutting boxes down into pieces.

"Hopefully the criminals haven't driven by my yet house today," Connors said.

Kansas City, Missouri has a no-tag policy until next Tuesday, meaning residents can trash up to 15 bags with no additional cost.

Because of the holiday, trash service is delayed by one day.
