Dead baby found in Applebee's trash can was stillborn, Irving police say - The Dallas Morning News

A baby found dead in a trash can in the bathroom of an Irving restaurant in July was stillborn, police said Thursday.

Officers had been called to an Applebee’s in the 1900 block of North Belt Line Road, near State Highway 183, on July 26, where employees found the child’s body while cleaning the bathroom.

The mother of the infant, a 29-year-old woman, had given birth in the restroom and placed the infant in the trash can, police said.

Employees discovered the infant’s body about a half-hour after the woman left the restaurant.

Irving police said they were referring an abuse of corpse charge to the Dallas County district attorney’s office. A grand jury will decide whether the mother should face a criminal charge, police said.
